EA7 Armani falls to Enel Brindisi in Italian League
The top team of the Italian Serie A, EA7 Armani Milano, fell on the road to Enel Brindisi in what was one of their worst losses in recent weeks. The upset of the now 20-7 Milano franchise can be credited to the excellent defense displayed by Enel Brindisi.
Enel Brindisi dominated this game from the beginning and did not show any signs that they would make things easy for Armani to mount a comeback. After establishing a convincing 24-10 at the end of the first quarter, Enel Brindisi did not slack off on defense and continued to limit the red shirts’ open looks and scoring opportunities.
Durand Scott led Enel Brindisi with 15 points and seven rebounds. Alex Harris chipped in with 12 points of his own.
Was Armani just caught off guard by Enel Brindisi and the roaring home crowd in this one or did they decide to take it easy given their guaranteed spot in the Playoffs? Regardless, it has been established that a high-pressure defense can, if employed well, can stifle Armani’s offensive game.
With the win Enel Brindisi’s record improves to 12-15, but are still in the outside looking in as far as the playoff race is concerned. They are in 10th place in the league standings, one full game behind Umana Venezia (13-14), which currently sits on the coveted final Top 8 spot.
Grissin Bon Reggio Emila won their game against JuveCaserta 82-87, are now also 20-7 and are only behind on tiebreakers. So, EA7 Armani’s top spot is not secure by any means as the regular season winds to a close.
