Dwight Howard Heading Overseas To Play in Taiwan
Former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard is taking his basketball talents to Taiwan.
Former NBA All-Star big man Dwight Howard has announced that he will be playing in Taiwan, suiting up for the Taiwanese basketball club, Taoyuan Leopards. Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype tweeted Howard’s video, which confirmed that he is indeed taking his talents to Taiwan this year.
Dwight Howard, who will turn 37 years of age this December, wasn’t able to sign with an NBA team this season. He last suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021-22 NBA season, logging 16.2 minutes and averaging 6.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. There’s no doubt that Howard is still a serviceable big man in the league, especially with his ability to protect the rim on defense and catch lobs on offense.
After a highly productive eight-year stint with the Orlando Magic, Dwight Howard has become quite a journeyman in the NBA. He has played for numerous teams, including the Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Philadelphia 76ers.
The 6-foot-10 center won the championship with the Lakers in 2020 and has collected tons of individual accolades, including eight All-Star appearances, five All-NBA First Team selections, and three Defensive Player of the Year awards. Howard also led the league in rebounds and blocks in multiple seasons.
It remains to be seen if Howard will still return to the NBA after his Taiwan stint. There were previous reports saying that the veteran big man is open to signing with the Golden State Warriors. Howard mentioned that he could be a mentor to Warriors’ young center James Wiseman, especially on the defensive end of the floor.
