Drake, new ambassador of the Raptors
Canadian-born rapper, Drake, has entered into a business partnership with the NBA’s Toronto Raptors and will be the team’s new “Global Ambassador” and consultant. This move by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is part of an attempt to “rebrand” the team and improve its image. The hip-hop artist joins other famous celebrities from the entertainment industry who have crossed over to an NBA team’s front office, such as Jay-Z and Will Smith.
Needless to say, the long-time NBA fan was excited about his new role with the Raptors:
“Today’s probably one of the best days of my life,” Drake said by phone from Toronto. “I got to throw on the suit and be announced as the global ambassador of the Toronto Raptors.
“I can’t wait to add everything I can.”
On Monday it was also announced that the NBA All-Star Game will be hosted by Toronto in 2016.
Drake’s addition, the All-Star Game, changes in the front office, all of these are all pieces of a puzzle that recently acquired last season’s Executive of the Year Masai Ujiri is putting together to raise up the Canadian franchise.
