Donta Smith, Jordan Hamilton, Kristoffer Lang, and Marcus Hall join La Guaira
Bucaneros de La Guaira made a signal of intent ahead of its Liga de la Americas FIBA campaign. The club has inked Donta Smith (201 cm, SE Illinois JC’04), former NBA swingman Jordan Hamilton (201 cm, Texas’11), Kristoffer Lang (211 cm, North Carolina’02), and Marcus Hall (185 cm, Colorado’08). The LPB franchise is heading into the competition with a strong roster this season.
The franchise is part of Group C in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which will host the Liga de la Americas. La Guaira will play against Capitanes de Arecibo (Puerto Rico), Hebraica Maccabi (Uruguay) and the hosts, San Lorenzo (February 3rd-5th)
Donta Smith is a well-travelled small forward who has played in Israel, China, Australia, and Puerto Rico. He has also featured in the LPB before and holds dual citizenship in Venezuela. Smith was a part of the Hapoel Jerusalem team that won the Israeli Winner League last season. Over 39 games he averaged 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
Swingman Jordan Hamilton has been spending time with Guara de Lara also in the LPB. He attracted the Bucaneros with 16.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over his three games. The American has previously played in Russia and in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets.
Kristoffer Lang is a veteran center who has played in Europe, Asia, the USA, and South America. Among his career highlights have been stints in the Italian Serie A and Turkish TBL. The American is also a veteran of Venezuelan hoops and has played for Cocodrilos de Caracas.
