Dinamo Tbilisi wins Super League title
Dinamo Tbilisi is once again the king of the Georgian Super League after overcoming Kutaisi in the finals series for the title. A 76-93 cruise on the road in Game 3 allowed Dinamo to sweep the series after previously easing through the Regular Season to top the league.
The victory marks the club’s fifth Super League title and the first since 2014. Indeed, this also brings a measure of revenge after Kutaisi beat Dinamo Tbilisi to the title last season.
Needing to win to stay in the title picture, Kutaisi had home advantage but struggled to make the most of it. Dinamo made the early running and led 19-21 through the first quarter. In the second frame, the guests carried the momentum and extended with a 16-24 run that made it 35-45 through halftime. With a double-digit lead, Dinamo kept pushing ahead, using a 14-18 third act to lead 49-63 through thirty minutes. The game was done, but the visitors made sure of victory with an impressive 30-point haul in the fourth.
Deonta Vaughan topped the winners with 17 points, while Ilia Londaridze and Mikheil Berishvili scored 16 points apiece. Levan Patsatsia secured a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Giorgi Tsintsadze plundered a game-high 19 points and 9 scoring passes in the losing effort. He was followed by Beka Bekauri with a double-double of 16 points and boards.
