Dinamo Tbilisi wins Georgian Superleague 2014
Dinamo Tbilisi has finally ended their championship drought by defeating Kutaisi Kutaisi 3-1 in the Finals to win the 2013-14 Georgian Superleague title. The last time the club took the coveted trophy was over a decade ago in 2003. This is the fourth Georgian Superleague Championship of the team (1991, 1992, 2003, 2014). This is the cherry on top of their excellent season, as the Dinamo Tbilisi finished as the regular season champions as well. Kutaisi was able to steal one game in the series, but Dinamo Tbilisi closed it out with a crushing 91-58 Game-4 victory.
It was a run-and-gun affair for Dinamo Tbilisi, which capitalized on a 13-0 run to pull away from Kutaisi. Their constant attacks and slashing to the rim allowed them to get some easy points on the board. Dinamo shot 30-of-44 from two-point range compared to Kutaisi’s 14-of-40. Dinamo Tbilisi’s stifling defense was the hero in the game, evidenced by Kutaisi’s 19 turnovers for the night versus their seven. Kutaisi did not have enough in the tank to mount a rally with enough momentum to challenge the victors.
Dinamo Tbilisi’s top performer for the game was Stevan Milosevic who had an efficient double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 boards. He went 10-of-12 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line. Keyon Carter added 18 points and 6 rebounds of his own. Giorgi Gamqrelidze filled the stat sheet with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists.
Only two Kutaisi players scored in double figures. Akaki Dvalishvili led the team with 15 and Avtandili Lominashvili chipped in 11 off the bench.
