Derek Fisher Fired by New York Knicks
The New York Knicks have finally decided to cut ties with head coach Derek Fisher. The Knicks are currently 23-31 and have just come from losing their fifth straight game. The organization hired Fisher in 2014-15 and was handpicked by team president Phil Jackson. Unfortunately for Fisher and much to the chagrin of the higher ups as well as the dismay of many disgruntled fans, Derek steered the team to a dismal 17-65 finish. This was Fisher’s first-ever coaching gig and it appears that he may not have been ready for the role.
“I know it’s a relief for him, taking away some of that stress from the job,” Jackson said. “It’s also a person I have a long relationship with and care deeply about and hope for his success. It’s time for us to make a change, turn this team around and move forward and get some wins and keep going down the road we started here at the beginning of the year.”
Fisher’s former assistant coach, Kurt Rambis will reportedly serve as the interim head coach.
