Denmark’s Ligaen opens tonight!
September 24, 2013, basketball action is set to begin as Denmark’s Ligaen opens, ushering the start of their 2013-14 season. On tap for the opening night’s game is SISU Copenhagen vs. the Horsholm 79ers. SISU finished the 2012-13 season with a record of 17-10, while the 79ers ended the regular season with an 11-16 record.
SISU will once again lean on American import Mickey Dennis (190 cm, JMU’01) to lead the team. The 35-year-old Dennis still has a little bit more left in his tank and will be counted on to produce lines similar to his 2012-13 averages of 17.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 4.3 apg. SISU will allow the offense to flow through Dennis and let him facilitate the tempo.
Horholm will be counting on local forward, Casper Hesseldal (198 cm, Dickinson State’12) to build and improve on his 2012-13 numbers. Last season he averaged 13.2 ppg and 5.9 rpg, showing his potential.
On September 25 there are two games scheduled, Team FOG Naestved vs. Vaerloese BBK in the first game, and last season’s runners-up the Svendborg Rabbits vs. Falcon.
The defending champions, the Bakken Bears will get their first taste of 2013-14 action against Horsens IC on September 26.
