DeMarcus Cousins to sign with Warriors
DeMarcus Cousins has agreed to a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors worth $5.3 million. On paper, the Warriors now have the most talented starting five of any NBA team in basketball history.
After LeBron James’ signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, Cousins’ surprise deal is one of the biggest hauls in NBA free agency. Cousins was widely regarded as one of the best centers in the league, if not the best offensive center in the world. In 2017-18 Cousins averaged 25.2 ppg, 12.9 rpg, 5.4 apg, 2.2 3pg in 48 games for the New Orleans Pelicans. His season ended abruptly after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles. He is expected to be sidelined until December or January. No player has ever come back 100 percent from this kind of injury in the past and it is possible that Cousins will never get his explosiveness back. So there is a distinct possibility that the big man is chasing an NBA ring with the Warriors and was willing to take a massive pay cut to get it done.
