Darius Thompson joins Baskonia
American guard Darius Thompson (193 cm) has signed a two-year deal with Spanish team Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Thompson arrives from Russian team Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, where he averaged 13.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists in 12 7DAYS EuroCup games last season. He ranked sixth – first among guards – in two-point shooting (69.7%) and 10th in PIR (17.2). It was his first EuroCup season, and now Thompson is set to make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with Baskonia in the upcoming 2022-23 campaign.
Darius Thompson joined Lokomotiv from Happy Casa Brindisi of Italy, where he spent the previous two seasons. He was named to the 2020-21 All-BCL second team after averaging 12.1 points and 5.3 assists in 12 games. Thompson made his professional debut with ZZ Leiden of the Netherlands in 2018-19 and was named the MVP of the Dutch League. Before that, Thompson played college basketball at the University of Tennessee, University of Virginia, and Western Kentucky University.
