CSKA Moscow blows out Avtodor in VTB League
CSKA Moscow continued their early-season tear in the VTB League on Monday, recording a 103-79 blowout victory over Avtodor. They improve to 4-2 and now are closing in on Khimki Moscow Region, who remain the Lords of the League with an unblemished 6-0 record.
CSKA denies Avtodor their first win of the season (0-4)
CSKA appears to be in gear now after a sputtery start to the season. Their offense is humming on all cylinders and it’s absolutely destroying the competition.
Mike James paved the way for the win for the Army men, who were pretty much in control from start to finish. He registered a team-high 19 points, leading three other teammates to score in double figures.
The team’s overall combined efforts were enough to withstand the monster game from Elgin Cook, who exploded for 33 points. He was literally the lone bright spot for his team as his teammates struggled to get into a rhythm on the offensive end of the floor. Cook will need much more support than he got last night if Avtodor want to climb out of the VTB League cellar.
Still, the team to beat remain Khimki. There are no ifs nor buts about it. They secured their sixth straight win on Sunday, demolishing Unics Kazan 108-83. Alexey Shved and Devin Booker formed a dynamic duo for Khimki as they combined for 45 points, nearly half of the team’s total output on the box score for the night. Khimki has been rolling and have shown no signs of slowing down in the VTB League so far.
