CSKA Moscow bags 2019 VTB League crown
CSKA Moscow has done it again! The Russian powerhouse swept their way through the entire VTB League playoffs to capture the 2018-19 title on Monday night. The came away with a decisive Game 3 victory over Khimki Moscow Region 103-92.
This is the organization’s eighth straight league championship. Impressive. Their clean sweep of Khimki in the finals was nothing short of exceptional.
CSKA led from start to finish and did not look back after rushing to a 30-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter. It was smooth sailing from there. In fact, their fast-paced offense allowed them to snowball their lead in the second quarter. Khimki would try to battle back in the second half, but it was a case of too little, too late for them as CSKA stayed in full control till the very end.
Despite an explosive 26-point game from Tony Crocker, Khimki was unable to hang with CSKA and their relentless offense. Veteran guard Sergio Rodriguez set the tone in this one and led the charge for CSKA with 16 points. Nando De-Colo and three other reds smashed through with 14 points each.
Their dynasty is not close to being challenged at this point, so expect CSKA Moscow’s rein in the VTB League to last quite a bit longer.
