Crvena Zvezda still undefeated in the ABA League
On Saturday, Serbian team Crvena Zvezda struggled in their road game against Igokea from Bosnia. Nevertheless, they won 77-79 and thereby remained unbeaten in the ABA League.
The Serbians have won all their games in the ABA league so far (15-0). Cedevita is four wins behind them, at 10-4 (in 14 games).
Yesterday’s ABA game between Igokea and Crvena Zvezda was a tough one that was decided in the very final minutes. Joe Ragland led Crvena Zvezda with 18 points and seven assists. Dejan Davidovac and Michael Ojo added 11 points each.
The Serbian club has been dominant in the ABA league so far. It seems unlikely they will lose the first place in the standings. They also are the favorites to earn the title and thereby make their return to the EuroLeague.
Following an unsuccessful season, Crvena Zvezda has been unstoppable this year. After losing the title to Buducnost last season, the Serbians are determined to turn things around in the ABA League.
The team hired former Olympiacos assistant coach Milan Tomic as the head coach. The management also bolstered the roster, by signing versatile and talented players.
Stratos Perperoglou, Ragland and Mouhammad Faye, among others, joined the Serbian club, which plays very well in all competitions.
As stated before, Crvena Zvezda has won all 15 ABA games so far, and in the Eurocup they have advanced to the Top 16.
There, they will fight with Unicaja Malaga (1-1) and Valencia (2-0) to qualify for the quarter-finals. The Serbians are also considered one of the favorites to go all the way.
Until now, coach Tomic and his players have shown that they are capable of winning in all competitions. They now need to keep playing consistently in order to win the ABA league and return to the EuroLeague. And if they win the EuroCup title, the season will end in a triumphant way.
