Coach interferes in game and causes loss!
Laurent Sciarra, the coach of Rouen in the second-tier of France’s Ligue Nationale de Basket was at the centre of a bizarre incident on the court as his team played fellow France Pro B team Boulogne Sur Mer on the weekend.
With the game tied at 84-84 and Rouen defending, Sciarra decided to take matters into his own hands, quite literally. As a Boulogne player made his way to the boundary line where Sciarra was standing, the Rouen tactician seemed to slip into a world where he was still a pro player and not the coach. The result was Sciarra reaching out and swiping the ball away from the Boulogne player.
Laurent Sciarra enjoyed a long career in French Basketball and was a fixture in the French National Team for 16 years. However with his playing days long gone the coach seemed to forget himself, or worse he did the swipe on purpose. You can check out the video below, and one of the funniest things about the event is that Sciarra immediately attempted to protest his innocence, even though the referee was standing next to him at the time.
Sciarra received a technical with just 0.8 seconds left on the clock. Boulogne duly went to the free throw line and shot for two points and the match, which was won 84-86 in favour of Boulogne. In this instance we doubt that the coach can blame his players for the loss and must take all the responsibility.
