CEZ Nymburk claims 16th straight NBL title
CEZ Nymburk continued its utter dominance of Czech Republic Basketball with a title series victory over BK Decin. The victory allowed the club to sweep the series 3-0 and claim its 14th consecutive league title. It is an amazing record and CEZ Nymburk shows no signs of letting go of its iron grip on the NBL trophy.
The club’s unprecedented record stretches way back to 2004 and has helped Nymburk eclipse all other Czech clubs, both domestically and in European competition.
BK Decin is a familiar foe and the club has come closest to testing Nymburk’s dominance in recent years. However, over the last two finals, Decin has been swept by the champs.
CEZ Nymburk vs. BK Decin, 70-56
With home advantage in Game 3, Nymburk would be confident of sealing the league in front of its own fans. That’s exactly how it transpired as the champs as they controlled large parts of the game and looked mostly comfortable.
Nymburk was helped by consistency from the charity strip, draining 17 of 22 (77.3 percent) or its efforts for plenty of free points. The hosts also doubled Decin’s assists with 14 scoring passes during the game.
Howard Sant-Roos led the winning effort with 21 points and 8 rebounds, enough to earn himself the MVP award. Eugene Lawrence secured 15 points, and Petr Benda managed 11 points.
Tomas Vyoral paced Decin with 13 points.
