Cedevita Wins Again in ABA Liga
The playoff berths may already be set in the ABA Liga, for a few weeks now actually, but it does not mean that teams have nothing to play for. With the exception of Crvena Zvezda, who have locked up the top seed over a month ago, the last three spots in the playoffs have set to be set in stone.
We already know which teams are playoff bound and they are Crvena Zvezda, Cedevita Zagreb, BC Partizan, and Buducnost Voli Podgorica.
At this point, the three other teams are looking to dodge an early encounter vs. Red Star, who have been simply dominant this season as they strolled through the regular season with a near-perfect 20-1 record. Clearly, they’re the team to beat. The key now, is for one of the other teams to secure the second seed, which would at least guarantee a delay in meeting with the Titans of the ABA Liga.
As things stand now, thanks to a 70-98 win over Petrol Olimpija Ljubljana, Cedevita Zagreb holds onto second place in the standings. That said, Round 21 has yet to be concluded and Buducnost have a shot to move up to that spot should they prevail over Mega Bemax, who are in fifth place. At this rate, it’s highly possible that Round 22 will still be exciting as teams jockey for playoff positioning.
Cedevita claimed their 15th win of the season at Ljubljana thanks to a strong first half. They handily retained control of the game thanks to some dominant performers from their starters. They outscored Olimpija’s starters in this game 59-29. Specifically, credit goes out to Elgin Cook, who led the team with a game-high 22 points on some efficient scoring from all over the floor. Edo Muric and Justin Cobbs added 15 and 14 points, respectively for Cedevita in this game. Olimpija was paced by Aleksandar Lazic with 15 points.
