Cavaliers Open 2016-17 with Blowout Win!
The reigning NBA Champions, Cleveland Cavaliers, ushered in the 2016-17 season with a resounding 88-117 blowout win over the New York Knicks. The Cavs received their 2015-16 Championship rings in a brief ceremony before the game. The rings have a special design, alluding to their historical comeback in the Finals after being down 1-3 in the series.
Cleveland used their dangerous and stingy defense to stifle the Knicks from get-go. The Cavaliers raced to a 28-18 lead at the end of the first quarter and did not look back. The new-look Knicks have some adjusting to do with the new additions of Courtney Lee, Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah.
LeBron James was impressive as he led the Cavaliers with a spectacular triple-double performance. James scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and handed out 14 assists. Kyrie Irving Cleveland in scoring with a game-high 29 points. Kevin Love posted a big double-double of his own, with 23 points and 12 boards.
Kristaps Porzingis made his sophomore debut for the Knicks and he scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Carmelo Anthony topped the Knicks in scoring with 19 points.
