Carlos Arroyo takes Galatasaray to arbitration at BAT
Puerto Rican international player, Carlos Arroyo and EPM Sports Consultants filed a claim against Turkish club Galatasaray Spor Kulubu at the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal. The claim is that the team failed to pay outstanding salaries, agent fees, and were seeking compensation for damages and interest. The club acknowledged that it failed to pay outstanding salaries and agent fees. Arroyo played for Galatasaray for three seasons from 2012-13 to 2014-15.
The arbitrator partially upheld the claim. The Award reads as follows:
1. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay to Mr. Carlos Arroyo the total amount of USD 1,150,000.00 net plus interest as follows:
a. 5% p.a. on USD 5,000.00 since 16 November 2014;
b. 5% p.a. on USD 175,000.00 since 16 December 2014;
c. 5% p.a. on USD 175,000.00 since 16 January 2015;
d. 5% p.a. on USD 175,000.00 since 16 February 2015;
e. 5% p.a. on USD 620,000.00 since 3 March 2015.2. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay to EPM Sport Consultants Ltd. the total amount of USD 163,000.00 net plus interest as follows:
a. 5% p.a. on USD 87,500.00 since 21 October 2014;
b. 5% p.a. on USD 75,500.00 since 21 January 2015.3. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay jointly and severally to Mr. Carlos Arroyo and EPM Sport Consultants Ltd. the amount of EUR 15,592.00 as a reimbursement of the advance on arbitration costs.
4. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay to Mr. Carlos Arroyo the amount of EUR 28,000.00 and to EPM Sport Consultants Ltd. the amount of EUR 7,000.00 as a contribution towards their legal fees and expenses. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi shall bear its own legal costs.
5. Any other or further-reaching claims for relief are dismissed.
