Can Giannis Antetokounmpo Take Greece over the top in FIBA World Cup?
Basketball fans in who will be watching the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China on August 31, are in for a special treat. Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks has said on Sunday that he will be playing for the Greek National Team in the tournament.
The only thing that would keep him from playing would be an injury before the event. This is huge. Antetokounmpo is one of the best basketball players on the planet right now. He’s managed to lead the Bucks to an Eastern Conference-best 43-14 record. The insanely talented 24-year-old positionless player is currently averaging 27.2 ppg, 12.7 rpg and 6.0 apg on the season.
FIBA currently has Greece ranked eighth in their global power rankings and sixth in the European rankings, one spot behind Slovenia in both rankings.
Giannis is a difference-maker of epic proportions. While he cannot single-handedly win a game for his team, his presence on both ends of the floor will surely go a long way towards Greece’s achieving their goal of winning the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
