Buducnost bags 11th straight Montenegrin league title
“Another year, another title.” It seems that has been the recurring theme for KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica for over a decade now, at at least as far as the Montenegrin Erste Liga is concerned. The team has just hoisted its 11th straight Montenegrin league championship trophy. They downed KK Mornar Basket Bar in Game 5 of the finals series, 76-73.
The final game was as exciting as could be expected. It went down to the wire, with Buducnost’s Nemanja Gordic posting a game-high 26 points. He was aggressive throughout the contest and it paid off as Mornar Bar sent him to the free throw line far too often and he made them pay. Gordic hit 13-of-14 shots from the the charity stripe and it played a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the game. Boris Savovic also played well, recording a double-double performance with 15 points and 10 boards.
Mornar Basket Bar played their hearts out and registered a solid, all-around team effort. Four players managed to score in double figures; with Antabia Waller, Marko Mugosa, and Octavius Ellis leading the way with 12 points each.
For Buducnost retains a firm, dominant grasp of the domestic Montenegrin league. Will a new team rise up and challenge their dynasty next season? It will definitely be something to watch out for.
