Brian Qvale moves to Lokomotiv Kuban
Brian Qvale (210 cm, Montana ’11) is moving his basketball career to Lokomotiv Kuban (Russia-VTB). Qvale has never played in Russia during his seven-year career. Most recently, he was a part of EWE Baskets Oldenburg (Germany-BBL) last season. His time in Oldenburg lasted for two seasons as a post scorer and a hard working rebounder. Last season, the big man recorded 14.7 ppg and 6.4 rpg in 25.2 mpg in the BBL. They made a deep run in the playoffs as well, making it all the way to the finals. They came up short in the championship round as they were swept by Brose Basket (Germany-BBL).Oldenburg also competed in the Champions League last season and did pretty well.
Oldenburg also competed in the Champions League last season and did fairly well. They advanced past the group stage, going 10-4 in Group C. However, their run on the biggest stage ended suddenly in the first round of the playoffs. Qvale played his usual minutes at 22.4 mpg. He scored 14.1 ppg and 6.6 rpg which is very similar to his BBL numbers. The big man is a consistent player and brings the same level of passion into each game.
Now, Qvale joins Lokomotiv Kuban in the VTB. The team ended their 2016/2017 campaign in late-May. Their end came in the semi-finals of VTB playoffs in a hard-fought series against CSKA Moscow (Russia-VTB). Lokomotiv finished the regular season fourth in the VTB at 19-5.
