Bobby Brown named bwin MVP of week 5
With the top performance on a winning Turkish Airlines Euroleague team for the second consecutive week, Bobby Brown of Montepaschi Siena has become the first player in almost three years to win the bwin MVP honor back-to-back. This time, playing in Poland against his former team, Asseco Prokom Gdynia, Brown paced Siena to a 66-101 victory, the club’s second-widest road win ever in the Euroleague. A week after he set personal marks in scoring and performance index rating, Brown still had some more career-best numbers: 6 of 9 three-point shots and 7 assists, both Euroleague highs for him. His 27 points on the night also marked the second week in a row that he led all Euroleague scorers. His index rating this time, 31, was only the best among players on winning teams, however. Blake Schilb of Elan Chalon-sur-Saone had an index rating of 34, but his team lost at home 78-88 to Unicaja Malaga, denying him the weekly honor. Schilb finished that game with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. In third place for the week, Semih Erden of Anadolu Efes Istanbul had another big game – 20 points and 6 rebounds, good for a 29 index rating – in a losing cause, as his team fell at home to Zalgiris Kaunas. Behind him came Curtis Jerrells, whose 25 points and matching index rating helped pace Besiktas JK Istanbul to a key road win at Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius. He was tied with reigning champ Vassilis Spanoulis, who had the same 25 index rating based on 23 points and 9 assists as Olympiacos Piraeus won away from home against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.
