BK Opava shocks world record-holder Nymburk
Czech team BK Opava caused the biggest upset of the season by beating ERA Nymburk 100-98. It was the first loss of Nymburk in the Cezch league since November 15 last year. That loss ended a 73 game winning streak in the Czech league, but they bounced back after last year’s loss and had a 43-0 record until last night.
Nevertheless, Nymburk remains the world record holder when it comes to playoff games. They have not lost a playoff game since 2011. A remarkable feat because the team has played playoff games every season and won 17 Czech titles in a row.
BK Opava was well prepared for yesterday’s game. In the first meeting between the two teams, Opava lost by only two points (89-91 on September 22). Their confidence got another boost by a surprise win on the road in the FIBA Eurocup against Dutch team Den Bosch. Nymburk, on the other hand, entered this game shell shocked. A few days ago, they blew a 15 point lead against PAOK in the FIBA Championsleague and lost that game.
BK Opava clearly started with a physiological advantage and quickly built up a 16 point lead. That lead slowly melted away, but in the end, Opava secured the win and sent shockwaves through Czech basketball.
