Big wins for Lietkabelis and Promitheas in Eurocup Round 14
Round 14 of the 7DAYS EuroCup began with four Tuesday contests in which Lietkabelis, Promitheas, and Cedevita all defeated teams ahead of them in the standings.
Group A
Lietkabelis Panevezs 93-78 Partizan NIS Belgrade
Lietkabelis extended its home-court winning streak to five games as it rolled to a 93-78 victory over Partizan in Group A. Lietbelis took control of the game with a 20-0 run to start the second quarter for a 20-point lead as it improved to 7-6 – and 5-2 at Cido Arena. Gediminas Orelik and Djordje Gagic led the way for Lietkabelis with 21 points each. Partizan, which could not get closer than 13 points the rest of the way, lost its fourth straight on the road to fall to 9-5.
Group B
Promitheas Patras 79-68 ratiopharm Ulm
The tight Group B race got even tighter as Promitheas stopped visiting Ulm 79-68 on Tuesday to sweep their season series. Promitheas raised its last-place record to 4-9 while sixth-placed Ulm dropped to 6-8. Jerai Grant powered the winners all night with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Dimitris Agravanis followed with 14 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. Semaj Christon led Ulm with 17 points.
Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse 77-88 Valencia Basket
The score was tied with 4 minutes remaining before Valencia took charge with a game-closing run to win 77-88. The victory lifted Valencia’s record to 10-4 and put it atop Group B – at least temporarily. Klemen Prepelic paced the winners with 18 points on 5-of-11 three-point shooting, Xabi Lopez-Arostegui scored 17, and Martin Hermannsson tied the club record with 12 assists. Rasheed Sulaimon scored 17 for Bourg, which fell to 5-9.
Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 92-78 Buducnost VOLI Podgorica
Cedevita continued its climb up the standings as it raced past Buducnost 92-78 at home for its third straight win in Group B. Cedevita ripped away control with a 31-10 run spanning the second and third quarters for a 22-point advantage. Cedevita improved to 6-7 thanks to Jaka Blazic scoring 23 points and Alen Omic collecting 19 points and eight rebounds. Justin Cobbs scored 21 points with six assists, but they were not enough for Buducnost, which lost for the fourth time in five games to drop to 8-7.
