Benin to feature in Slamfest Basketball Tournament
Benin is among eight countries that will participate in the forthcoming Slamfest Super basketball League scheduled for July 20 to 22 at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Other countries that have confirmed their participation include Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Nigeria, Senegal, Rwanda and hosts Kenya. The countries will compete in 16 games where the winner will pocket KSh8.3 million.
Pay TV providers Zuku will sponsor the event to the tune of Sh166m which will include airfare for the teams, broadcasting the tournament across Africa, prize money as well as logistical costs.
National Basketball Association (NBA) head of Africa, Amadou Gallo Fall, lauded the initiative and success the continent has brought to the global stage of the sport. “We are delighted to have Zuku come on board and sponsor a competitive basketball tournament. We look forward to spreading the game of basketball in the continent,” he added. Gallo said there has been tremendous improvement in basketball standards on the continent. “Everywhere you go in Africa, there is widespread talent and it needs to be harnessed.
