BC Vienna wins Austrian title
As they say, “Defense wins championships,” and that is exactly what BC Zepter Vienna did in its 68-55 victory over the Redwell Gunners Oberwart to win the 2013 Austrian league championship. This is BC Zepter Vienna’s first A Bundesliga title.
The winners kept control of the game throughout all four quarters. They steadily built on a two point first quarter advantage to finish at the half ahead, 35-28. In the second half it was more of the same story, with BC Vienna limiting Oberwart on the offensive end, keeping them to only a 14-point final period.
The Champions were led by two of their American imports, who both scored in the twenties. Both forwards provided the scoring punch while the entire team kept a strong defensive presence. Ian Boylan (197 cm, CS Northridge’05) finished with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Shawn Ray (194 cm, N.C. Central’03) added 20 markers of his own.
Oberwart’s Darnell Hinson (186 cm, Northeastern State’04), their Puerto Rican-American guard, was the only one on the losing end who was able to get his offensive game going with 19 points. Seamus Boxley (201 cm, Portland State’05) came away with a double-double, recording 12 points and 11 boards.
