BC Timisoara wins Romanian Cup
Despite displaying average form in the Regular Season, BC Timisoara has come through the pack to be crowned the Romanian Basketball Cup champion. The club downed Targu Mures 78-73 in the final, but needed overtime to ensure the success.
Through the opening period Targu-Mures (also displaying mid-table qualities this season) took the lead and was 16-18 in front through ten minutes. In the second act BC Timisoara continued to be dominated and by half-time Mures had opened a 27-39 advantage and looked in control. That serene progress continued after the long break as the teams traded buckets and Mures maintained their twelve point lead. However, in a blockbuster fourth period BC Timisoara exploded with a 21-9 rally that got them back into contention. More importantly the players snatched the momentum at a vital time, and Timisoara sunk 16 points in the overtime period to lift the trophy.
