BBC Monthey wins Swiss league title
BBC Monthey has been crowned the champion of the Swiss LNA after overcoming Geneva Lions on the road in Game 6 of the finals series. The 69-77 success handed Monthey its third title overall and its first since 2005.
In victory, the club took the finals series 4-2. Knowing a win would wrap the title, BBC Monthey raced from the tip off and drained 25 first quarter points for a seven points advantage at the first split. The visitors continued the momentum in the second period, using a 14-16 winning 10 minutes to extend to 32-41 lead through the long break.
In the third act, the Lions finally roared and dropped 17 points to cut the deficit by three points and make it 49-55 through thirty minutes. The hosts were unable to complete a comeback as Monthey won the deciding quarter to claim the game and the Swiss LNA title.
Markel Humphry topped the scoring with 19 points in the win, while Jonathan Dubas was excellent with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while he also handed 5 assists. Brandon Young also managed 16 points.
Antonio Ballard propped the losing effort with 16 points and 9 boards. Marko Mladjan doubled up with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
