Baylor suffers first loss at hands of West Virginia
Baylor University was dealt its first loss of the 2016-17 NCAA season when they fell to West Virginia, 68-89. This was a big upset as the number one ranked team ended up falling to the 10th ranked team in NCAA Division 1. West Coast powerhouse, Gonzaga is the last remaining undefeated team at 15-0.
The reason Baylor lost was plain, simple and straightforward. The team could not take care of the ball. They committed 29 turnovers in this contest, the highest by a ranked team so far. Credit goes to West Virginia’s defense, but Baylor was out of it from the get-go and they were not playing at top form.
West Virginia’s Nathan Adrian would finish with a game-high 22 points to lead three other teammates to score in double figures. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and 6-of-9 shots from the free throw line. Terry Maston, Al Freeman, and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr., would be the only Baylor players to notch double figures in scoring with 10 points each.
While this is a stunning setback for the already overperforming Baylor squad, the team can easily bounce back from this one and get back on the winning column.
