Bayern Munich wins Eurocup Group K
A Germany vs. France clash opened Round 5 of the Eurocup Second Stage, with Bayern Munich visiting JDA Dijon to get the week’s action underway. The current Bundesliga champions played to victory with a 74-84 score line that kept the club undefeated in the Eurocup this season. Bayern became the first team to win its group after qualifying previously, the club now sits on a 5-0 record and has been in solid continental form since dropping out of the Euroleague.
As for Dijon, the French club is out of the competition and will now return its focus to the French ProA where the club is in the title mix. Speaking of titles, on this form Bayern Munich will surely be looking to add the Eurocup to its list of recent honours, but of course there is plenty of ball to be played before those dreams can be realized.
JDA Dijon vs. Bayern Munich, 74-84
A strong opening saw Bayern snatch an early 0-9 lead, which the visitors used to hold a 19-24 lead through the first split. However, it could have been more as Dijon rallied to score the final 12 points of the first quarter to correct a 7-24 scoreboard after seven minutes. In the second period the hosts continued their momentum and closed the game to 26-27 and edged the second quarter 22-21, but through the long break it was still Bayern with the lead (41-45).
Paced by electric scoring from Dusko Savanovic, Bayern Munich took a firm grip of the game in a dominant third stanza. The German club stopped Dijon at 8 points through the frame and drained 20 points to put plenty of daylight on the score after thirty minutes, 49-65. The home support got behind their team and Dijon had their best spell through the final act, winning the fourth quarter 25-19 to at least make it interesting down the stretch. However, Bayern held firm and took a double digit victory.
Savanovic was raging hot at the basket for Munich, nailing 29 points while also taking seven rebounds. He was followed by Nihad Djedovic and John Bryant with 14 points apiece.
