Bayern Munich stuns CSKA Moscow to maintain EuroLeague top four push
Bayern Munich upset CSKA Moscow on the road (66-69) and maintained its top four push in the EuroLeague.
In a hard-fought battle in Moscow, the Bavarians were down by 10 after three quarters (60-50).
Yet, the visitors bounced back and outscored the Muscovites 6-19 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
As a result, Bayern improved to 14-9 and is one win away from fourth-placed Real Madrid.
On the other hand, CSKA dropped to 16-7 and to the second place in the EuroLeague standings.
Real Madrid endured the comeback of ALBA Berlin and escaped from Germany with a big victory (63-72).
The “Whites” led by 10 at halftime (30-40), but the hosts went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to two (63-65).
The visitors stood tall, though, and went on a 0-7 of their own to seal the deal.
Real remained fourth in the standings, at 15-8, whereas ALBA dropped to 8-15.
Panathinaikos led from start to finish and dominated Valencia at home (91-72).
The “Greens” celebrated their 500th game in the EuroLeague with an emphatic victory to improve to 8-14.
On the contrary, Valencia dropped to 11-12, suffering its third straight loss.
ASVEL Villeurbanne made a step closer to the playoffs after its 78-81 road win over Crvena Zvezda.
The French led by 15 during the contest, but the Serbians turned things around and tried to upset their opponents.
Norris Cole, though, was a game changer for ASVEL, scoring 15 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Thanks to this win, ASVEL now is on a three-game winning streak and has won four of its last five EuroLeague games to climb to 9-14.
Meanwhile, Zvezda has won only once in the last five EuroLeague games and dropped to 7-12.
Baskonia returned to the winning track and put an end to a four-game losing streak in the EuroLeague.
The Basques took over after the first quarter and led by double digits to cruise to the victory over Zalgiris Kaunas (81-68).
Baskonia improved to 10-13 and remained alive in the EuroLeague playoffs race.
For their part, Zalgiris dropped to 13-10, but remained within the EuroLeague playoff zone.
