German BBL: Bayern Muenchen falls at home
Germany – In the final regular season game of the BEKO Bundesliga, league leading FC Bayern Muenchen loses at home to ALBA Berlin, 72-80. Despite the loss, the team from Munich still manages to finish as the regular season champion with a record of 29-5, one game of Brose Baskets Bamberg (28-6). ALBA Berlin will also be joining Bayern Muenchen in the playoffs, which begin on May 10, as they finish the regular season in third place with their 27-7 record.
ALBA Berlin got a huge game from Reggie Redding, who poured in 21 points as he caught fire from downtown with five treys. Their offense clicked early on as they took control of the game in the first quarter with 25-15 advantage. The hosts stormed back in the second to cut the lead to four and ended up with what seemed to be a more manageable 37-41 deficit. However, they weren’t able to gain more ground after halftime and a stalemate in the third kept Berlin in control with their slight lead. The visitors managed to keep Bayern Muenchen at bay during the final minutes of action and were able to gain some momentum as they head into the Playoffs.
Aside from Redding’s excellent game, ALBA Berlin also got good production from David Logan and Jan-Hendrik Jagla, who finished with 15 and 11 points respectively.
Bayern Muenchen had four players who managed to score in double figures. Deon Thompson and John Bryant scored 11 points each, while Paul Zipser and Nihad Djedovic added 10 apiece.
