Bakken Bears Sweep Their Way to 16th League Title
The Bakken Bears took down Horsens IC in a clean 4-game sweep in the Danish League finals series to bag their 16th championship. Horsens IC finished the regular season with an astounding 19-2 record, two games ahead of the Bears. However, when it came to the playoffs, it was all Bakken, all the way. The Danish powerhouse took the series against their league rivals in convincing fashion, capping it off with an 83-76 victory in Game 4.
While Horsens IC had the advantage in the 3-point shooting department, the Bakken Bears were the kings of the glass and outrebounded Horsens IC 41 rebounds to 27. Michel Diouf was their main man in the middle and finished with 14 points and 14 boards. Collectively, Bakken played better as a team, while Horsens IC had to lean heavily on the game-high 34 points put up by Lawrence Alexander. He did most of his scoring in the fourth period, hoping to rally his club, but it was too little, too late and the Bears are now repeat-champions once again.
Horsens IC had back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016, but the Bakken Bears stormed back to the top of the podium in 2017 to reassert their dominance over the Danish League. Will we see the Bears establish another era where they reign supreme for multiple seasons, or will Horsens IC find a way to send them back into hibernation come 2018-19?
