Avtodor shocks Unics Kazan in VTB League
Avtodor Saratov stunned high flying Unics Kazan at home in the VTB United League as Round 15 of the competition kicked off.
Unics has won its last three VTB United games and were sitting in fourth place with a 9-5 record, but they were undone by a solid Avtodor performance. The Saratov club climbed to 8-8 and have won 6 of their last 7, with only CSKA Moscow defeating them recently, the club is climbing the standings and is slowly becoming a contender.
The hosts dominated off the bench as the Avtodor supplement players plundered 37 points, while the non-starters for Unics only managed 9 points through the game. The Kazan contingent actually took the lead in the opening quarter and led 18-21 through the first ten minutes. In the second half Avtodor erupted with an 18-8 run that gave them control of the scoreboard. From there the home team never looked back and managed to lead by as much as 22 points in the second half before completing a comfortable victory.
Avtodor was dominant off the glass, doubling Unics Kazan’s haul of 25 to grab a massive 51 rebounds through the game. Kyrylo Fesenko was undoubtedly the star of the show with 23 points and 16 rebounds in a huge double-double performance. He was followed by Courtney Forston with 22 points.
Unics turned to James White and Keith Langford, with the American pair grabbing 16 points apiece.
