ASVEL Villeurbanne survives Baskonia for its first EuroLeague win of the season
ASVEL Villeurbanne survived a late thriller against Baskonia and earned its first win of the season in the EuroLeague (86-88).
The French team led for the majority of the night and endured the comeback of the Basques, claiming a big road win.
Moustapha Fall led the winners with 19 points, while three more players scored in double figures for ASVEL. On the other hand, Tonye Jekiri posted 23 against his former team and Pierria Henry added 20.
This was the first time a French team wins in Vitoria since 1985. Thanks to this result, ASVEL Villeurbanne improved to 1-3.
For its part, Baskonia dropped to 2-3. Both teams still have games to play (four and two, respectively), which were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Barcelona earned its fifth straight victory and sixth overall in the EuroLeague after dominating ALBA in Berlin (67-103).
The Catalans led from start to finish and were up by 20 at halftime (36-56). The Germans could not recover after that and suffered a painful loss at home.
Nikola Mirotic contributed a game-high 18 points for the winners, while Nick Calathes dished 12 assists in just 18 minutes of action. On the contrary, Simone Fontecchio had 17 points for the losing squad.
Barcelona is still on top of the EuroLeague standings (6-1), whereas ALBA now has an 1-4 record.
Anadolu Efes extended its winning streak in the EuroLeague to two games, behind a hard-fought victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
Rodrigue Beaubois had an amazing night and was the one that handed the Turks the win.
The French guard made the layup that gave his team the lead (91-89), with 24 seconds to go. Then, he guarded Scottie Wilbekin and blocked his game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
Beaubois had 23 points, a career-high seven assists, three steals, two blocks and a personal-best performance index rating of 36. Elijah Bryant was the best player of the Israelis, who lost their second straight game.
Anadolu Efes improved to 3-3 in the EuroLeague standings; Maccabi is at 2-5.
Olympiacos returned to the winning track in the EuroLeague and put an end to a two-game losing streak.
The “Reds” rallied past Zenit Saint Petersburg (66-75) and secured their second EuroLeague road win.
The Greeks led by as many as 16 points in the contest (44-60). The Russians, though, made a comeback, thanks to a 16-3 run (60-63).
Olympiacos, however, closed the game on a 6-12 run of their own and sealed the deal, earning a much-needed victory in the EuroLeague.
Hassan Martin led the winners with 16 points, whereas Billy Baron paced Zenit with 13.
Olympiacos now is at 4-3 in the EuroLeague standings, whereas Zenit dropped to 2-1. The Russians still have four games to play, due to the coronavirus pandemic (just like ASVEL Villeurbanne and Baskonia).
This is the first time since October 9 (EuroLeague Round 2) that no game was suspended due to the pandemic.
