Asi Taulava signs with San Miguel Beermen from Manila
Asi Taulava is signing with Philippine team San Miguel Beermen. The legendary Asi Taulava (206 cm) is the best player ever to come out of Tonga (a small Island nation in Polynesia). He also has the Philippine nationality and has played many years for the national team.
Asi Taulava was the 2003 Philippine Basketball Association’s Most Valuable Player and he was also a 12-time All-Star. Asi Taulava went to college in the US (Cal State Bakersfield and BUY Hawaii) and also played professionally in Brazil and Sweden at the beginning of his career. The 132 kg and 206 cm Taulava also played American Football in Highschool where he was an All-American. He has made his physical and aggressive style of play his trademark.
According to PBA.ph, the 39-year-old Taulava also drew interest from other teams in the ABL. Teams from the Chinese Basketball Association were also interested but Taulava couldn’t pass up the offer from San Miguel because he wants to stay in Manila and spend more time with his Family.
Asi Taulava will be coming into the league fresh off a stint with the Meralco Bolts. In his 13-years in the PBA, Taulava has averaged of 15.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
