Armani Milano triumphs over Real Madrid to sweep season series in the EuroLeague
Armani Milano stunned Real Madrid at Wizink Center and triumphed over the “Whites” to sweep the season series in the EuroLeague (2-0).
Real was down by 17 midway through the third quarter (41-58), yet they cut the deficit to three late in the game (74-77).
The Italians stood tall, though, and sealed the deal from the free-throw line (76-80).
This was the first road win for Armani over Real Madrid after nine straight EuroLeague defeats.
The visitors also snapped a 14-game losing streak against the hosts, after beating them twice this season.
Real dropped to 12-6 and saw its six-game winning streak come to an end. However, they remained close to the top of the EuroLeague.
Meanwhile, Armani improved to 10-7 and is within the playoff zone.
Anadolu Efes dominated ASVEL Villeurbanne on the road and cruised to an easy victory over the French team (80-102).
The Turks led by start to finish and earned the win, as the French never recovered after being down by 20 at halftime.
Efes has now won six games on the road this season and improved to 9-9 in the EuroLeague.
On the other hand, ASVEL Villeurbanne remained close to the bottom, at 5-12.
In Piraeus, Olympiacos survived a late thriller against Bayern Munich (84-82) and claimed a big home win.
Neither team led by more than nine points in the contest, with the “Reds” being in front late in the game (72-63).
Bayern went on a 12-19 run and turned things around, though, but missed the chance to force an overtime.
Thanks to this win, Olympiacos maintained a playoff push in the EuroLeague and now is at 9-8.
On the other hand, Bayern dropped to 11-7, but remained close to the top four.
Joffrey Lauvergne had a career night in the EuroLeague, helping Zalgiris Kaunas crush Khimki at home (102-75).
Lauvergne had a career-high 29 points, nine rebounds and a PIR of 38, making his best performance in the EuroLeague.
For their part, the Lithuanians extended their winning streak in the EuroLeague to six games to improve to 11-7.
On the contrary, Khimki lost its ninth straight and remained on bottom of the table, at 2-16.
