Anthony Bennett cut by Fenerbahce Ulker
Anthony Bennett (203 cm, UNLV’13) has been released by Turkish club Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul (Turkey-BSL) this 2017. The Canadian big man joined them in January 2017 but did not seem to be able to excel with his new team. Bennett played nine games for them in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, where he averaged 1.3 ppg and 1.0 rpg. He fared slightly better in the Turkish BSL, logging seven games and posting averages of 9.0 ppg and 6.4 rpg.
Anthony’s attempt at revitalizing his pro ball career with a stint with a European team has hit a major speed bump with this latest development. His NBA career was a brief and rough one. The 24-year-old Bennett was the first-overall pick of 2013 NBA draft. He was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers but could not seem to bust out of his slump. Hampered by various injuries, the forward moved from team to team, in search of a fresh start. He was waived by the Brooklyn Nets after playing 23 games for them in 2016-17.
