Anadolu Efes Wins Torneo Geovillage
We resume our coverage of European basketball preseason action today with a report on success by Turkish club Anadolu Efes Istanbul on Sunday. The blue shirts won the Torneo Geovillage as they prevailed over Italy’s Dinamo Sassari 70-60. They have looked sharp so far in the preseason, winning four of their five preseason games. If 2018-19 began today, they’d be ready for action. They fell in the semifinals of the domestic Turkish League to Tofas Bursa last season and will be looking to redeem themselves with a superb season.
Adrien Moerman has been a force to be reckoned for Anadolu Efes thus far. He did it again in the tournament final, leading the team from Istanbul with 22 points. Former NBA point guard Rodrigue Beaubois chipped in with 15 points.
It was not a smooth win for Anadolu Efes. They trailed Sassari 45-47 after three quarters but surged with a strong performance in the final frame to turn the tide in their favor and eventually claim the victory.
In other news, Armani Milano (Italy-Serie A) bagged the Trofeo Lovari after downing Umana Reyer Venezia 90-72. Their star guard, Mike James powered Armani to this convincing by dropping 31 points. Venezia could not contain the guard and he slashed his way into the paint almost at will.
