Anadolu Efes knocked out of TBL Playoffs
Turkey TBL – Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir won Game 3 of their Quarterfinal match-up against Anadolu Efes Istanbul and will move on Fenerbache Ulker in the Semis. The 2014 Turkish Cup winners were able to keep their opponents in check in the fourth quarter to prevail 67-73.
It was a back-and-forth affair. Both teams exchanged baskets early in the first quarter, but the guests forged an four-point lead going into the second frame. Karsiyaka’s Jawad Williams hit a few baskets to start the quarter. The club from Istanbul delivered a strong second quarter, swinging the momentum in their favor on the shooting of Zoran Planinic, and managed to head to the locker room with a two-point lead, 37-35.
After the break, Karsiyaka retook the lead as both teams stepped up their defenses. Jon Diebler and Soner Senturk led the charge for their team. As both clubs prepared for the final period, Anadolu Efes was staring at a six point deficit, down 52-58. Karsiyaka matched the hosts point for point in the fourth quarter and held on for the win.
Zoran Planinic and his 4-7 shooting from downtown was the main reason Anadolu was able to rally in the middle of the game. He finished with 14 points. Cedi Osman added 12 points, most of which came in the third period.
Karsiyaka’s Bobby Dixon led four other players in double figures with 14 points. He ended the game with a well-rounded stat line, adding seven rebounds and eight assists as well. Esteban Batista did an excellent job in the paint and was just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Jon Diebler added 13 points. Soner Senturk, Baris Hersek and Jawad Williams each scored 12 points for the winners.
