ALBA Berlin is Perfect 10-0 in German BBL
ALBA Berlin is currently dominating the German BEKO BBL. Two Top-5 teams locked horns in arguably the most notable game of Round 11 of regular season action. The visiting club from Berlin handed EWE Baskets their first loss at EWE Arena for the season, 86-93. The victory lifts league-leading ALBA Berlin to a perfect 10-0 record and they have yet to show any signs of slowing down. The bitter loss sends Oldenburg down to fifth place in the league standings with a 7-3 slate.
The hosts wanted to do their best to defend their home court and matched their guests almost stride for stride and basket for basket in the early minutes of the contest. ALBA Berlin still managed to come out ahead with a slim two-point lead at the end of the first period (23-25). Their balanced attack continued in the second quarter as they sought to expand on their advantage. ALBA Berlin was more aggressive when it came to hustling for rebounds and were masters of the glass in this game, as they outrebounded EWE Baskets by a difference of 11 boards for the game. Their team play was noteworthy as players’ unselfishness was evident 16-9 edge in the assists category. By the halftime break, the guests were able to stretch their lead to seven points, 47-54.
Things took a turn for the worse for EWE Baskets, when starting guard Chris Kramer was unable to resume the second half due to an injury. Maurice Stuckey stepped up to fill the void and helped push his team into a position to chip away at the lead. Heading into the final period, both teams were tied at 66-66, leaving the fate of the game to be settle in the last twelve minutes of action. In the fourth quarter ALBA Berlin displayed the calm and composure that led to their current success and proceeded to move on to take win.
Alex Renfroe caught fire from behind the arc and was 4-of-4 from downtown. He led ALBA Berlin with 18 points, pacing four other teammates who also managed score in double figures. Jamel McLean added 14 points, while Reggie Redding and Leon Radosevic each chipped in 13 points each.
Both Casper Ware and Maurice Stuckey scored 18 points for EWE Baskets. Rickey Paulding and Adam Chubb chimed in with 13 points apiece.
Now, the results of this contest begs the question, “Who defeat ALBA Berlin in the domestic German league?” Time will tell. For now, they remain the lords of BEKO BBL and are the undisputed team to beat.
