Alab Pilipinas Wins 2018 ASEAN League Title
The Philippines’ San Miguel Alab Pilipinas bagged their third ASEAN League Title on May 2nd after defeating Mono Vampire Basketball Club 102-92 in the finals. It was a grueling series as both clubs ground it out to the full five games.
Much to the delight of 6,000 fans who filled the Santa Rosa Multipurpose Complex, Renaldo Balkman led the Philippine club with 32 points, nine boards and six assists. Balkman’s impressive performance was matched by Alab Pilipinas teammate Justin Brownlee who flirted with a triple-double, dropping 24 points, 12 rebounds and nine dimes.
Alab Pilipinas put up a spirited run in the third frame to pull away from Mono Vampire. The Thais tried to fight back, but the Philippine team would not commit any serious errors that would sway the momentum in their guests’ favor.
Michael Singletary led Mono Vampire with 32 points and eight rebounds. Samuel Deguara dropped a huge double-double with 24 points and 18 rebounds.
The night belonged to Alab Pilipinas but 2018-19 will either be another story or another chapter in what could be the beginnings of a dynasty in the ASEAN League.
