Al Thornton signs with Gaiteros de Zulia
Former NBA player Al Thornton (203 cm, Florida State ’07 ) is heading to Gaiteros de Zulia (Venezuela-LPB). Thornton’s NBA career consisted of three years with the Clippers, two in Washington and one in Golden State from 2007-2011. His best season came in 2008/2009 with the Clippers where he scored 16.8 ppg with 5.2 rpg in 37.4 mpg. His high minute total came on a weak Clippers team. Since leaving the NBA in 2011, Thornton played in Puerto Rico, China, and the Philippines.
Last season Thornton played with the NLEX Road Warriors (Philippines-PBA). He dominated for the team with averages of 36.1 ppg, 12.2 rpg and 2.5 apg in 42.5 mpg. His season was highlighted by a 69 point, 19 rebound performance against the San Miguel Beermen. The small forward has been able to score for every international team he’s played with. He has never averaged less than 21 ppg playing outside the NBA.
