Adriatic League Round 13 action
Round 13 of the 2015/2016 Adriatic League has tipped off and league leaders Buducnost VOLI Podgorica stormed to another win to enhance its position at the top of the standings.
In the other contests, Cedevita Zagreb remained on the hunt in second place with a victory over MZT Skopje, while Mega Leks recent good run came to an end with a loss at Metalac. During the weekend there were also Adriatic League wins for Tajfun and Partizan Belgrade, while current champs Crvena Zvezda Belgrade will play tomorrow in an attempt to join Cedevita in a tie for second place.
Cibona Zagreb vs. Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, 69-91
Buducnost laid down another market with an impressive road win over Cibona Zagreb, enough to keep the club top with an 11-2 record. Cibona continued to struggle and now the club is one from last with a poor 4-9 showing. Tadija Dragicevic led the winners with 23 points, while Doron Lamb added 17 points in a Buducnost attack that looks consistent throughout. The visitors recovered from a losing first act to dictate the game thereafter, including a 7-26 run in the third quarter.
Partizan NIS Belgrade vs. Union Olimpija Ljubljana, 76-74
Partizan downed Union Olimpija in Belgrade at home by just two points, but it was enough to send the Serbian giant onto the same 5-8 record as their opponents and a share of 8th place. Partizan took the first frame 17-15 and then extended to lead 39-32 at the long break. Union Olimpija made it a two point game through thirty minutes with a 17-22 run (56-54), but in the fourth the teams locked 20-20 and the hosts managed to steal the win.
Igokea Aleksandrovac vs. Tajfun, 71-82
Tajfun left Aleksandrovac with a win and in the process leapfrogged Igokea in the Adriatic League standings, moving to 6-7, while the hosts slipped to 5-8. The visitors were exceptional in the first half, winning the first quarter 16-24 and the second 13-22 for a 29-46 halftime advantage. Tajfun weathered the inevitable Igokea storm in the third quarter and managed to cruise through the fourth stanza to victory.
MZT Skopje vs. Cedevita Zagreb, 65-70
Cedevita continued to mix Euroleague and ABA duties well as the Croatian club defeated MZT on the road on Sunday to stay in second place with a 10-4 record. Miro Bilan recorded a double-double in the victory, grabbing 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Luka Babic scored 13 points. Cedevita is guaranteed at least a share of second place at the end of this round, with only Crvena Zvezda able to lock with them in the standings.
