Adriatic League champion Crvena Zvezda stumbles and falls
Bosnian team Igokea scored a massive win in Round 3 of the 2021/22 AdmiralBet ABA League regular season as they defeated reigning champions Crvena Zvezda at home. Igokea extended their home-court winning streak against the red-and-whites as this was their 3rd consecutive win against the Belgrade side in Laktaši.
Igokea led throughout the whole game. The home team was up by 22 points at halftime. However, they had to put their best performance into the last 10 minutes to repel Zvezda’s attempt of making a major comeback. In the end, Igokea managed to keep their lead to write down their 2nd win of the season.
Both Igokea and Crvena Zvezda now have a 2-1 overall record.
Key moments: Igokea was up by 44:22 at halftime, and at that moment, it seemed that the home team would score an easy win. However, you just cannot beat the reigning champions that easily. The Belgrade troops started melting the gap as soon as the 2nd half started, and they managed to reduce Igokea’s lead to just 5 points – 56:51, with 7 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.
But that was when Igokea made the final blow in this game. The Laktaši troops made a key 11:2 run to get back on a double-digit lead – 67:53 – and finally break their rivals.
Man of the match: Igokea’s player Aleksa Radanov had a fantastic performance against his former team Crvena Zvezda. Radanov finished the game with 14 points, four rebounds, and seven assists, while he tied his AdmiralBet ABA League career-high index rating of 25.
Can’t trick the stats: Crvena Zvezda scored just 22 points in the first half, and that is where they should look for why they lost this match. The red-and-whites were 0/10 for 3-points in the first 20 minutes.
