Adam Wojcik passes away at age 47
Adam Wojcik has passed away. He suffered from leukemia. The Basketball world mourns the premature passing Saturday morning of one of the best Polish players ever. Adam Wojcik won the Polish championship eight times. He was named MVP of the league and of the finals three times each. he scored more than 10,000 points in the domestic competition. Wojcik started his pro career in his native Wroclaw in 1987 and finished there, too, in 2012. In between, Wojcik made his EuroLeague debut in 2001 with Peristeri of Greece, the first of his six consecutive seasons in the competition. In his debut season, 2001-02, he was the EuroLeague’s eighth-best scorer, with 18.4 points per game. Next, he made one-year stops at Unicaja Malaga and Idea Slask Wroclaw before three seasons in a row with Prokom Trefl Sopot, leading the team to the Top 16 twice and finishing his EuroLeague career 10.8-point scoring average for a total of 1,030 points over 95 games. He subsequently played one season in the EuroCup, 2009-10, for PGE Turow of Poland. For the Polish national team, Wojcik played 149 games, second most ever, and scored 1,821 points. Adam Wojcik was one of the best European players of his generation and could have played in the NBA. He was invited to the training camp of the Los Angeles Clippers but it was not meant to be.
