ABA Liga: Only Two Teams Remain Unbeaten
The ABA Liga (Adriatic League) wrapped up Round 3 of its 2018-19 regular season on Sunday, October 14th. After the dust settled, only two teams remain with perfect records. They are none other than Crvena Zvezda Beograd (3-0) and Mega Bemax (3-0). Will Red Star go on one of their massive win streaks as they’ve done in previous seasons? They are now three wins in and are taking steps in the right direction.
Three games were played on Sunday and it was a mixed bag, with an upset accompanied by a couple of games with expected results.
Igokea 78-85 Buducnost
Buducnost bounced back from their loss to Red Star in Round 2 against a tough opponent in Igokea. The Montenegrin Powerhouse rained down a dozen threes on their hosts to power their way to victory. Coty Clarke accounted for almost half of that total with five treys, en route to his team-high 19 points. Buducnost did their best with an impressive team effort and overcame a monster game from Tomislav Zubcic who dropped 32 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts.
Petrol Olimpija 91-81 KK Zadar
There were no surprises here as the Slovenian club defended their home court with great success against their Croatian visitors. This is the kind of result that you will find when Olimpija’s offense is running on cylinders. The duo of Jan Span and Miha Lapornik powered Olimpija to victory as they combined for 38 points.
Zadar was led by Luka Bozic who had a game-high 20 points.
Mornar Bar 97-94 BC Partizan
This game was one of the more unexpected upsets in the round. Partizan was favored to notch their third win of the season against Mornar Bar, but their hosts did not get the memo and ended up fighting tooth and nail for the win at home.
An energized Nemanja Vranjes scored 26 points for Mornar Bar. He punished Partizan for sending him to the foul line as he made 11-of-12 shots from the free throw line. Bronson Koenig chimed in with 23 points of his own. Both players combined for nine of Mornar Bar’s 12 3-point shots in this game.
Djrodje Gagic paced Partizan with 23 points.
Here are the results of the games that were played out on October 13th, Saturday.
FMP 93-88 Cibona
Cedevita 88-95 Mega Bemax
