ABA League: Crvena Zvezda Back on Top
The ABA League has a new team atop of its standings after Round 19. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd has reclaimed the pole position after a dominating 100-77 win over FMP yesterday. Also, former league leader KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica fell to Cedevita Zagreb 71-76 on February 3rd.
The shift in power is not carved in stone by any stretch of the imagination. While Red Star has been a dominant force in this league over the last few years, Buducnost has also been a regular challenger for that title. This ongoing rivalry in 2017-18 could percolate into a heated Playoff picture.
The reigning champions came to play and play they did. James Feldeine led four other teammates in scoring in double figures with his team-high 19 points. Crvena Zvezda has some of the stingiest defenses in the ABA League once they clamp down. Red Star collected 11 steals in this game, keeping FMP’s offense disoriented at every play. While this was an easy win, Crvena Zvezda will still have to contend with some tough competition moving forward. They cannot rest on their laurels as Buducnost will bounce back in their next game.
