ABA League: Buducnost Reclaims Solo Lead
KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica claimed the solo lead in the ABA League after toppling Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd 92-86 on Monday. The Adriatic saved this game to close out Round 15 and it did not disappoint. Coming in, both teams sported identical 12-2 records. Buducnost (13-2) now has a one-game lead over both Crvena Zvezda and Cedevita Zagreb. While things are tight atop of the league standings, teams in the middle of the pack find themselves in a similar situation. Mornar Bar (8-7) currently claims fourth place, but three teams are within striking distance. FMP, Partizan, and KK Zadar all share identical 7-8 records and could easily climb into that top-4 spot on a good week.
Moraca Sports Hall was on fire as both teams put on an excellent game. It would be the visiting Red Star squad that would post an early 22-27 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The second period told a different tale. Buducnost dominated with a 10-point edge.
When teams of this caliber collide, a close game can be expected. The final result was decided in the final minutes. Buducnost would lock things up at the free-throw line with two shots made by Nemanja Gordic.
A strong and accurate performance from the 3-point range was enough of an edge to allow Buducnost to edge out their Adriatic League rivals.
