7Days EuroCup: ALBA Topples Loko in Group B Clash
Round 5 of the 7Days EuroCup 2018-19 regular season drew to a close on Wednesday night with a full slate of nine games on tap for fans from all over Europe to enjoy. One of the most important games of the round took place in Group B. It was a critical match between the top-2 teams of the group, ALBA Berlin and Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar.
There was a change in the leadership position of Group C after ALBA Berlin stunned a home crowd and downed the previously-undefeated Lokomotiv Kuban 75-83. As a result, both clubs now sport identical 4-1 records, with ALBA claiming the top spot thanks to this tiebreaking victory.
Luke Sikma flirted with a double-double as he provided 18 points and nine rebounds to spark the yellow shirts to victory. Stefan Peno scored eight points and dished out 10 assists, to keep their offense flowing smoothly, while Johannes Thiemann chipped in 12 points of his own.
ALBA had the advantage in this game thanks to their superior defense. They recorded nine steals, compared to just five from Loko.
Former NBA guards Isaiah Whitehead and Dorrell Wright combined for 31 points for Loko, but ALBA’s defense kept them from doing further damage and the Russian squad was derailed.
